So lush is its landscape and so beautiful its gardens that the County of Kent is known as "The Garden of England." Whether in quaint cottages or spacious estates, the people who live there are devoted to upholding their cherished tradition of planting and maintaining gardens that are the envy of all the world. "F.C. Conybeare Gardeners" takes us back to the early 20th century when its was quite common for a landscaper's steam wagon to make its way along the country lanes, loaded with all the plantings & tools needed to enhance a yard or garden with trees, flowering shrubs, clay pots and fresh mulch. This particular vehicle is a 1918 Atkinson Steam Wagon belonging to F.C. Conybeare Gardeners of Chilham, Kent. The detailed decoration includes the company's telephone number on the cab door and a fine line filigree artwork. Matchbox Collectibles has created "F.C. Conybeare Gardeners" in the unique combination of die-cast metal and hand-painted cold cast sculpture in a replica that is issued in a strictly limited edition of just 5,000 worldwide. |
